THE GARDEN

Verdant Hollow’s USDA Certified Organic garden utilizes a variety of growing practices, such as permaculture, rotational growing, hugelkultur, and cover cropping. Our focus is to help restore and regenerate the soil while fostering a healthy beneficial insect population.

Our Produce

Through organic and sustainable growing practices we are able to grow year round, producing greens in the winter and a variety of greens, fruits and vegetables during spring through fall that are for sale at local farmers markets and our online store!

greenhouse

Our greenhouse is a good example of passive design for a more temperate climate  in order to extend our growing season.  Year round we have flowers, greens, and are able to support growing products out of our zone like lemons and avocados.  It uses fans and drainage pipes to redistribute heat to the beds, as in a climate battery.  At the heart of the greenhouse is a wood-fired sauna and large water tanks built into a hill that help regulate the temperatures during the winter.  The automated vents, curtains, and polycarbonate shell allow it to trap heat when needed, but never overheat.

HIGH TUNNEL

Our high tunnel provides us with the ability to grow cold hardy crops year round. This includes a variety of leafy greens and/or root veggies; such as kale, spinach, specialty lettuce mix, carrots and beets. With clever use of row cover and low tunnels our winter greens production survived the 2019 polar vortex without manufactured heating.
